In 1979 Albert and Sylvia came from Munich, Germany to the United States to visit friends and to buy a Chevy Van for ski trips to the European Alps. Our friends had recently moved from Florida to the Mountains of Western North Carolina so, during our visit, they introduced us to the most spectacular part of the Appalachian Mountains, the South Toe River Valley, in the shadow of Mount Mitchell.

Our friends knew we were in the restaurant and hotel business in Germany, so they asked us if we would be interested in starting a Bavarian Inn and Restaurant at the newly developed Mount Mitchell Golf Course. The idea was very tempting. We returned to Germany with the Chevy Van, but we could not stop thinking about the beauty of the Blue Ridge and Black Mountain Ranges, and about the opportunity of starting a new business. Little by little a plan took shape and we decided to leave Munich and embark on a new venture in this beautiful mountain land. We never looked back.

Whether you are one of the many friends we have made over the years, or you are new to this area, please come and visit with us. Let us share the beauty of our US home with you. Let us put a taste of Bavaria in the memories of your North Carolina Mountain Vacation.

We closed the restaurant at the end of October, 2007 as we scaled down our business life, moving toward retirement. But we are keeping the motel active to accomodate our many friends, and to provide a quality, affordable place for visitors and new friends to stay during their visit in the South Toe River Valley.
